New 122 Years of Borax Sweepstakes !

Here is another chance to win something great!

From August 13th to September 17th you can enter to win the 122 Years of Borax Sweepstakes. The winner of the sweepstakes will get $1891! Isn't that just wonderful. What would you do if you won $1891?

ENTER HERE for your chance to win.

Don't know what Borax is? You can either continue reading for uses and a recipe for laundry detergent or CLICK HERE and go to the 20 Mule Team page site that tells you all about it and its many uses.

Borax is an all natural substance that is also know as sodium tetraborate. That's for the people that like to know the scientific terms for things! I know it as that stuff that cleans just about anything, kills odors, and can be used to dry flowers for arts and crafts. OK that last one I didn't know until I read it on their site! It's pretty nifty.

I know a lot of people that use 20 Mule Team Borax in making their own laundry detergents. There are a lot of sites and blogs out there where you can get a great review and recipe for this laundry detergent. Using the liquid recipe the cost per load is about five cents! I am going to start making my own using the recipe below.

What you'll need is:

  1. a bar of natural, unscented soap like Ivory
  2. a box of washing soda. Arm and Hammer is the brand I would go with, but that is just my preference.
  3. a box of Borax
You should be able to find these at your local stores, but I put links in for Amazon for you all that like to order online. I have found them at my local Dollar General Store.

You will also need water,  a pan to heat your water and soap in, a five gallon bucket, something to store your detergent in like empty laundry detergent bottles if you've saved those or any gallon jugs you might have.

Here's how to make a liquid laundry detergent:

  1. Grate your bar of soap
  2. Gradually heat 2 quarts of water and your grated soap, stirring until all your soap bits are dissolved
  3. Using really hot tap water, add four and a half gallons to your bucket
  4. Stir in a cup of borax and a cup of the washing soda
  5. Add your soap from your pan
  6. Stir well
  7. Let sit overnight, covered
  8. Stir or shake mixture until smooth
  9. Pour into your bottles, jugs or storage containers
  10. use 1/2 cup per load or 1 cup for really dirty loads
  11. repeat
  12. enjoy!
Don't forget about the other sweepstakes I have been blogging about. Check my other posts under the tab giveaways and sweepstakes!

  1. here is a tip, its easier to microwave the soap than to grate it. I cut it into chunks, microwave for 3 minutes. let cool completely and it just crumbles into a powder.
