Book Review: Cenicienta - Cinderella

Once again I got to try out a wonderful pyp book by Suzy Liebermann. This one was the book titled CINDERELLA - CENICIENTA (Happy Language Kids - English and Spanish for Kids)

As you can probably tell already, this story is about Cinderella. I found this to be a refreshing change from the more textbook-like bilingual children's books that my daughter and I have been reading. I have always loved the Cinderella story and was happy to share this bilingual version with my daughter.

The illustrations in this book were very interesting to me. I love seeing different versions of Cinderella, and was not disappointed in this one. The evil stepsister and stepmother really looked unfriendly in this book! The prince I found to be amusing. I am not sure if he was supposed to come across that way, but that was my opinion of him with his single tooth.

My daughter is starting to slow down on her studying of the Spanish language. I am trying not to push her too hard. This book helped capture her interest again, because she loves fairy tales and princesses. This one was harder for her to read than the first two books from Suzy Liebermann that we read. The website really helped with this one, as my daughter is finding it more difficult to study if I am standing over her shoulder. I really appreciate that they take the time to animate and voice all of their books on their website. It is very helpful in learning the proper pronunciations.

I would recommend this book to either English speaking children or adults just beginning to learn Spanish, or Spanish speaking children and adults that are just beginning to learn English. Both would benefit from this book series.

As I said in my review of the first two books, I want my daughter to already have a grasp of the language when she starts her Spanish language course at her school.  The only class they offer at her school, other than an English Language course for children with Spanish as their mother language, is Spanish. I am grateful that I can find a language course for children available online!  I believe that learning at home about other languages and culture is good character education and will help her in many other aspects of her life as she matures.

So what is my final opinion of the book? I give it a two thumbs up. It is an educational book as well as a story book. It has cute illustrations that greatly help in the learning process. It is a wonderful story book for learning Spanish or English. It is easy to understand and not too advanced for beginners. I hope to use more of the books in the Happy Language Kids series to help my daughter learn to speak Spanish fluently.

  1. Oh what a great review of a lovely book for kids. I enjoyed Cinderella, both the book and the various movies ever since I was a child. This brought back fond memories :)
