"Almost all my books, the workshops that I facilitate, and the one-on-one work I do with individual clients incorporates creativity in the spiritual growth process. This is because positive thoughts need to go deeper than the intellectual level. When they are intended to be so, creative activities like creative journaling, poetry-writing, drawing and doodle art, can be forms of self-hypnosis or meditation. They can take you right into your center of peace and wisdom and keep you engaged there long enough to enjoy an increased sense of well-being and to receive inspiration for your next steps in creating the life you desire. Please feel free to use these pages as a launching pad to your own artistic explorations. Extend and expand beyond the lines, jot notes, write haikus and affirmations, and above all have fun! My Review
★★★★☆
When I decided to review these books I did not realize how hard it would be to review poetry. Everybody that reads poetry seems to take away something slightly different than everyone else. It's all about perspective, I guess.
There were three books of poetry and a coloring book in the Love Collection and all of them are great. The first of the three poetry books, Love Poems, I read through pretty quickly. I won't try to pretend that I understood all of the poems. I have never been big on poetry and trying to understand it, but I do know when I like a poem. There are several in this book that really spoke to me. One, Aloha Heart, is very short and doesn't make sense to me while, at the same time, making perfect sense. It is only a few lines and I have it memorized. I am not sure what it is that makes it special to me, but it just feels right. Another, High Impact Honey, is my favorite of all of the poems. It makes me think of my husband as I read it. It describes how I feel with him very well.
The second book, Awakened Love, has some really good poetry as well. I really enjoyed reading through this book and took more time than I did with the first one. Some of the poems jumped out and said hey, here we are. Mr. Sandman was the first one that really caught me in this book. Another is called Sharing. The one that really sticks with me is called The Perfect Sleeper. It is my favorite in this book. They all bring to mind how I feel with my husband and make me smile.
All I need to say about Twin Flames, the third book in the collection is this: Bass Guitar Tanka. That poem completely sums up my life with my husband and how I feel about him. I love it. Just five lines on a page, yet it is perfect. Then there is The Love Whisperer, which is just as perfect. This is my favorite of the three books and I plan on memorizing a lot of the poems so that they can run freely through my mind as I go through my day.
The fourth book in the collection is a coloring book called The Love is Everywhere Coloring Book. The illustrations in the three poetry books and in the coloring book are all so fun and happy. They make me want to get out my color pencils and spend some relaxing moments coloring in each one.
My daughter fell in love with the coloring book, so I allowed her to keep it. My son wants the books and after I memorize my favorites, I think I will let him have them. That way he has books full of love to take with him when he moves out into the rest of his life. He just turned 18 so it is only a matter of time. Anytime he feels down, he will be able to open up any one of these books and they will be sure to brighten his day.
I recommend this collection to anyone that enjoys uplifting poetry and wonderful illustrations that make your heart smile.
I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.
Its funny how certain poems seem to jump right out of the page at you :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Amanda, thanks so much for reading and reviewing. It made me happy to read about which poems you especially connected with and how they reflected the connection you have with your husband. I'm glad you and your daughter like the coloring book and I am touched to tears that your son wants to take the books out into his life and that you want that for him. Writing is a very solitary occupation though it's really all about communication. So when your work connects with a reader, it feels good. Thank you. <3
